Accessibility

Ann Summers has placed great importance on ensuring our website is accessible to everyone. Not only does it look great, but it’s also designed to be user-friendly too. We have made every effort to make this site accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, visual impairments, motor deficiencies and cognitive conditions.

Below are some of the key accessibility features we have implemented to enhance the user experience, as part of the site design. We have made improvements for screen readers, keyboard navigation, text-only browsers, mobile devices, amongst others.

  • We've used clear and simple language which is easy to understand. All headings and text are presented in clear, easy-to-read fonts.
  • Alt tags and image tags are used for non-text elements to support screen readers and improved accessibility of our site.
  • We provide detailed descriptions of all our products so that it is possible to navigate our site without relying on images. We would however encourage displaying the images as they showcase our products beautifully.
  • We've used common web conventions like validated HTML and our site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout to support a seamless user experience. We have made every effort to ensure our site is as usable and readable as possible if your browser does not support CSS. We have also avoided the use of blinking or flickering elements as to not cause discomfort.
  • We have designed (by using structural mark-up and links) and tested the site thoroughly to ensure compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). In some instances, the website uses enhanced features via JavaScript for enhanced functionality, and we recommend enabling it for the best user experience. While we have worked hard to provide equivalent functionality without JavaScript, this may not always be achievable.
  • Special consideration has been taken with the use of colour on our site to ensure the site remains accessible, particularly for individuals with visual impairments. Our combinations of font and background colours have been carefully considered with regards to colour blindness conditions ensuring the information is clear and easy to navigate.
  • Our website does not use pop-up windows unless necessary, such as enlarged images. We carefully consider when we use pop-ups to ensure they do not disrupt your experience as sometimes it is important to see the browser window you've just navigated from in the background.

We monitor the accessibility of our site using Speed Curve and regularly review our solutions in line with evolving guidelines and directives to meet our obligations within the EU Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2. If you encounter any part of our site that is difficult to use, please contact us so that we can continue to improve our overall accessibility.
