Adobea x Ann Summers

Adobea (@itsdivinestyle) was diagnosed with stage 4 secondary breast cancer in May 2018 and her initial thoughts were "how long do I have to live?"

Fortunately, Adobea was told that her cancer was treatable with medication available. Adobea gave us this piece of advice for someone newly diagnosed - "Try to stay positive and do as much research as you can on your diagnosis and treatments available"

Do you have any advice for people supporting a loved one going through breast cancer?

Make yourself available for your loved one, even it’s going for a cup of tea, brunch or just a heart to heart on the phone. I think it’s so important for anyone going through breast cancer to know they have support and feel they have people who love them.

How has your treatment affected your sexual wellness?

In so my many ways from low libido, dryness and self confidence with your naked body, especially if you have had a mastectomy or in my case gained excess weight in new areas of my body. All these factor really do effect your sexual wellness.

At Ann Summers, we are all about female empowerment, what advice would you give for people to really help love themselves?

Learn to love who you are and your body no matter the size or shape, we all have insecurities and aspects of ourselves that we wish we could change. It can be so hard especially, if you’ve had surgery or your body looks different. But embracing those flaws and focusing on the things we do like is so important. Also daily positive affirmations and trying to stay in a positive mind set can really help change how you view yourself for the better.

Where did you source your confidence from?

I have an amazing support system, my friends and family always encourage me and allow me to be myself which has made me comfortable In my skin. I also really try to be positive, I don’t compare myself to other people and I really do try to enjoy my life by doing things that make me happy.

What is one thing you’ve learned in your adult life that you wish you could tell your younger self?

Live your dreams and anything is possible so don’t be afraid to go for it! Never allow people’s opinion of you to bring you down, wear that dress and strut your stuff. Always do what makes you happy and trust your gut.
